Andrew Bahhi - Syriac Orthodox Church

This week has been a big blessing because we got to celebrate His birth on Christmas eve and Christmas Day, with two Holy Liturgies at church, so we thank our heavenly father for all His blessings. This is the first Sunday after Christmas, where we celebrate the martyrdom, described in Matthew 2, when Herod learned the king was born in Bethlehem. And out of his jealousy, King Herod was angry to kill all the kids in Bethlehem from 2 years of age and under. But meanwhile we see how our heavenly father......

Christmas and The Great Joy of Christ

Merry Christmas! While Jesus was with Mary in the stables with the animals, the angels came from heaven to bring the most beautiful and delightful message to the world. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” – Luke 2:14 As we learned during a difficult 2020, God will continue to protect us and be with us. If you hear me and are with me, that means even though we have seen all the hard times, we are still here. This is the strongest message that......

Choosing Jesus Above Everything

A lot of time we forget that our life is nothing. We often pay attention to small things in life while we miss big opportunities. We learn a valuable lesson about this in Matthew, when Jesus came to meet a man who was very well known in his community and society. The man came to Jesus because Jesus had the authority to let people into the eternal life. (Matthew 19:16-21) This man said, “good teacher” or “good master” and bowed down to him. And on top of that, he asked the most......

From Father Andrew: Feast of the Discovery of the Holy Cross

St. Paul was talking about the Cross and he said: “The message or the word of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. =“ By saying this, St Paul is distinguishing between the people. The ones who believe in the power of the Cross and the people who deny the power, the meaning or the message of the Cross. In other words, people who believe in Jesus who died on the Cross and the people who are......

From Father Andrew: Spiritual Delay is the Greatest Disease

The disease of spiritual delay is like the coronavirus. By the time you have it, it is too late.  By the time we decide we wake up or find a solution for it, it may be too late. But as long as we have life, we have an opportunity to save our spirit. When it comes to true repentance, especially in the summer, people say “I want to enjoy my life.”  But as long as you cannot guarantee you will be alive in the next second, you should not postpone your love......

From Father Saliba: Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Today, we celebrate the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God. It is also a day for us to recognized 3 feasts. The first one is her departure to heaven, when she died. The second one is when her body was taken from earth to heaven. The third one is her blessing. All three, we celebrate today. We call her the second Eve. The first Eve remember the serpent who told her to eat the fruit, she will be like God to know the good from the bad.......

The Transfiguration of Christ – His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak

Last Thursday we celebrated the Feast of the Transfiguration. As we learn in the Bible, our Lord Jesus Christ took Peter, James & John up a mountain to pray. While praying, His presence changed to a glorified form and his clothing became a dazzling white. Moses & Elijah appeared and talked with him about his death that would soon take place. Then a cloud came from above, with a voice saying “This is my beloved son. Listen to him.” The cloud lifted, Moses & Elijah disappeared, and Jesus was alone with his......

From Father Andrew Bahhi: Love Rises Above All Divisions

If we are here, this is an opportunity. We all know how bad the virus pandemic is, and how many people are dying. We really must thank God we are still alive and think twice that the life that God provided us is not in vain. To accomplish His purpose in our life and call on more people to His kingdom. We here, the believers, we are the kingdom of God. Jesus said the Kingdom of God is within you. The evil one does not want to see us living in love......

Father Saliba Syriac Orthodox Church

The reading of today is from the Gospel of St. Luke 17, when the Lord was talking first of the offenses, and then forgiveness, and then at the end by serving. “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.” – Luke 17:1-2 In our life there are a lot of obstacles and......
