From Father Andrew Bahhi: How to Always Be with Jesus
A lot of us after the spiritual and holy season forget about God. I don’t mean we don’t believe in God, but we try to give ourselves a break or rest from our relationship with Jesus after times like the Holy Lent and Easter.
But we should all read or Bible daily. We should all keep the fast during the whole year. And we should do more prayers, spiritual meetings, or hear sermons more often all during the year. Not only during the special seasons.
In other words, we give us an excuse to commit sin, although we won’t call it that. We give it good names just to justify ourselves. But my question today is — should we be taking a break FROM, God? Or are we taking a break WITH God?
We all remember in the Book of Matthew, when Jesus says: “Come to me all who are weary and heavy burdened, and I will give you rest.” – that means we could only find rest with Him, not outside of Him.
We have to understand the real rest is with God, not out of God.
We tend to feel like His commandments are heavy, and people say, “let me enjoy my life.” I don’t know what they mean. Will this really give them a life of enjoyment?
We go back to our old habits, or maybe we get bored from the relationships with Jesus. Let me bring your attention to something very important. In the very first verse of John 21, it says “Jesus showed himself again.” – it means He will show himself again, and again, and again. Why? Because He cares about you.
We know that after they saw Jesus calling them in John 21, and John said as Jesus showed Himself — “It is the Lord.” This was the third time Jesus showed Himself after rising from the dead.
You have to be with Him, only with Him, all the time. He is the risen Christ from the dead. We can understand the purpose of His appearance to His disciples, as it is said in Matthew 6:33, “seek first the kingdom of god and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Everything will be added to you, Jesus says: “I am the Lord, the risen lord from the dead. And you need to be with me in order to have a good life. Not only during the spiritual and holy season, but all the times of your life.”
