From Father Andrew Bahhi: Choosing a Giving Love
In today’s amazing reading, while we are getting closer to the feast of Jesus ascension into heaven, with John 3: 11-21. Jesus was talking was speaking with the disciples, and he said “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Be ready to open our heart and open our mind so we can enjoy His company.
And then Jesus said the most very well-known verse in the entire Bible. John 3:16.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
The thoughts and the teaching that God wanted us to know about Him and how to have a relationship with him.
People from Day 1 of creation have loved and will do so until the end of the world. They will love each other and love God.
The language of love is the language that connects us with God and with each other, and with ourselves. St. Paul said this is the greatest commandment ever: Love. If one acts with the love of God, he will never do anything wrong. The aim of all virtues is love.
Love that comes from a pure heart and good conscience and sincere faith.
The Bible speaks of three forms of love:
- Eros: Fleshly love
- Phila: Love among people
- Agape: Love that gives rather than takes. The first two are loves that receive, but this is a giving love where God gave the ultimate love, sacrificing his only begotten son.
Jesus spoke of a love for a significant sign for his disciples from the people. If you have loved EVERYONE, then you are a real disciple of Jesus Christ. “He does not love does not know God, because God is love.” – 1 John 4:8.
Without love we cannot be real Christians.
Please love on good conscience and very strong faith, and not loving out of benefit.
Remember how Jesus gave himself on the cross knowing that you are a sinner, so that you can have salvation? Are you willing to put yourself with Him in order to love everybody?
Are you willing to love the church by helping needy people or performing charity? Do you really love God by devoting time to him daily and pray, no matter how tired you are or how strapped you are for time? This is how you show pure love to him.
